PLUG-IN aims to design and develop a pilot usage program that will deliver a comprehensive set of services to enable and support interoperability for businesses and users across both similar and diverse industry sectors.

The PLUG-IN interoperability service will initially focus on facilitating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing the technological infrastructure that can be deployed on top of their existing systems. This infrastructure will enable them to exchange valuable information seamlessly with other users through end-to-end connectivity.

The PLUG-IN infrastructure will be further configurable by users, allowing it to deliver tailored, value-added services based on the specific needs and operational context of each business. Multiple communication channels will be supported for this purpose, including the internet, telephone, mobile devices, and even RFID technology.
