Project Description

OTS’s “Process M.I.A.” Project: Innovation in Process Mining and Internal Audit

OTS, with a steadfast commitment to innovation, announces the launch of its new research project, “Process Mining and Internal Audit (Process M.I.A.)”, with project code ΕΚΠΑΡ03-0057817, which is implemented with the financial support of the European Union.

The Need for Optimization and Transparency

In today’s increasingly complex political, social, technological, and regulatory landscape, organizations — especially in the public sector — are under growing pressure to operate with greater efficiency, accountability, and agility.

However, operational fragmentation across multiple information systems often prevents organizations from having a complete picture of how their processes actually work. Information is scattered, and data silos are formed, leading to delays, deviations, and decision-making that is based on assumptions rather than facts.

Process M.I.A. project addresses these challenges by offering an integrated solution that allows organizations to map, monitor, and analyze their business workflows with accuracy and clarity.

The Solution: Open1|ProcessMiner

At the heart of the project lies Open1|ProcessMiner, an advanced software platform that combines Process Mining techniques with Machine Learning to:

  • Collect data from existing organizational systems,
  • Analyze real process execution based on system-generated event logs,
  • Visualize and compare actual workflows against predefined models,
  • Identify deviations, bottlenecks, and errors,
  • Enable documentation, auditing, and improvement of operational flows.

The platform creates digital twins of business processes to enable organizations to monitor what is happening in real time and implement changes based on objective data rather than assumptions.

Innovation in Deployment and Use

Open1|ProcessMiner will be provided as a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution, hosted on cloud infrastructure. Components responsible for retrieving and transmitting data will be deployed within the organization’s internal systems, ensuring secure handling of information.

In addition, data preparation tools and libraries will be made available under Open Source licenses, supporting third-party developers and facilitating broad interoperability with existing and future systems.

Why It Matters for the Public Sector

Public sector organizations are increasingly required to demonstrate measurable performance, compliance, and transparency.

Process M.I.A. supports these goals by enabling:

  • Automated documentation of actual processes, beyond theoretical models,
  • Quantitative performance indicators and data-driven evidence,
  • Auditing and monitoring of deviations from expected procedures,
  • Enhanced transparency and informed decision-making based on data rather than empirical observation.

This way, public organizations can directly support their daily operations, internal audit, and adaptation to regulatory requirements, at a lower cost and with greater reliability.

 Benefits and Outlook

By adopting Open1|ProcessMiner, organizations will be able to:

  • Replace general and abstract assumptions with strictly quantitative criteria,
  • Identify and eliminate bottlenecks and inefficiencies,
  • Boost productivity and organizational efficiency,
  • Strengthen transparency and regulatory compliance.

A New Standard in Internal Auditing

Process M.I.A. by OTS combines cutting-edge technology with a deep understanding of real-world organizational needs. Scientifically grounded and practically focused, the project introduces a new era of digital internal audit and information leveraging. Decisions will no longer be based on sampling approaches — but on a holistic analysis of all available data.
With this project, OTS empowers organizations to build smarter, more transparent, and more agile operations — now and in the future.

Open1ProcessMiner

The project is part of the Research & Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialization (RIS3) 2021-2027, under the Priority sector 8. Digital Technologies, in the intervention area 08.03. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, and Priority 08.03.04: AI Systems by businesses for developing innovative products & services.

The project, “Process Mining and Internal Audit (Process M.I.A.)”, is implemented under the “Research-Innovate” Action and is co-funded by Greece and the European Union (European Regional Development Fund – ERDF) through the NSRF 2021–2027.
